I'm a bit of a quiet, lazy person. On my off days I usually stay locked away in my room drinking coffee or beer (depending on the hour), with the lights off, turtle beaches on, 6 feet away from a 32" LED tv, playing COD Black Ops on 360.
I doodled a good bit as a kid. Like when I was in church, I would sketch the pastors standing behind the pulpit. In school, I would doodle... When I was in 8th and 9th grade I would hang out at local tattoo shops a lot after school. I had a few older friends that were into tattoos and some were tattoo artists, plus there was a pool table there and was generally a nice hang out. Thats about the time my interest with tribal tattoo designs was born. I'd hang out there doodling a lot. I was also a bit of a laid back druggie then. About the time of my 10th grade year I got into trouble, the angry ungovernable child I was back then... I spent a few days in Juvenile, then a month at a Harbor House, then was put into a Boy's Village for 9 months. So pretty much my entire 10th grade year... Around that time was when I started getting into that popular Anime show Dragonball Z. I would draw fan art a little bit then. Once I finished my stay at the village I quit doing drugs and such, except for drinking on occasion. I was still a bit of a slacker. (I still am struggling with that one. lol) Then was the time of the Paragon. Which was an after school place for teens, and I was there all the time. The main room was large with black lights on the ceiling, and white walls. That became canvas for graffiti of sorts. I would draw my tribal patterns on the wall, outline them in sharpie, and then paint them in fluorescent paint. I loved that place. As with everything, things would come to an end. They people changed, they moved from that building to another one right down the road, but was never to be the same again. Around that time I had failed 11th grade the first time, due to attendance and grades, and the second time around I had the grades, but failed due to attendance. That's when I quit and got my GED. As it was, one of the staff members of the Paragon paid for my exam. That place and it's staff really did leave an impact on my life. After not even studying I passed the practice GED test, then scheduled the exam a month from then and passed it fine. From then till now, every year I think about going to college, and I keep on getting older. Moving along from job to job, never certain of what I want to do with my life, seemingly just building a list of what I don't want to do... Since I finished with the high shcool years, throughout my work history I'd hang out a lot at the local Waffle House, where I always had friends working. I'd sit there to all hours of the night, hanging out, drawing, and drinking coffee... I still hang out there sometimes when I am home, but not nearly like I used to, as constant work has consumed most aspects of my life since. The latest push I had in regards to art comes from a relative, who is a graphic artist, who often asks if I'm still drawing. So to accomodate the question, I decided to pick up art once more. Not that I ever lost touch with it or had no passion about it, just because it's been overshadowed by other things in recent years. The goal at that time was to draw something new every day, which was overly- ambitious since I work 12hrs a day, 2 weeks to 2 months straight in the oil field.
The goal now is to draw something new once a week. I'll be posting here a good bit more soon. I'll be scanning my portfolio of designs into the computer sometime soon as well. Then depending on how much free time I have, I may digitally retouch them using GIMP.
There will be a large surge in the tattoo designs section soon...
